We’re excited to have Jordan on our Outdoors360 team, and write our upcoming forecasts for the Panhandle of Florida. Captain Jordan Todd is the C.E.O. and Professional Fishing Guide at SaltWater Obsessions Fishing Guide Service.
September fishing marks the beginning of every inshore fisherman’s favorite time of year, and that’s the fall fishing. Two things happen in the fall that make for great fishing. The shrimp hatch and the mullet run. As temperatures cool off trout and redfish begin to school up and push up shallow in anticipation for the massive wads of white shrimp and mullet that are getting ready to migrate out of the estuaries.
Focus your time on the shallower grass flats in 1-4 feet of water where you see lots of bait teaming around. The trout and redfish will be underneath that bait. In the mouths and around creeks with a tidal flow and small bayous will hold schooling reds as the are feeding on shrimp. I like to throw a 1/8 oz jig head with any pearl white soft plastic that resembles a shrimp. My favorites are the gulp and slayer Inc soft plastics.
