A 246.6-pound tarpon that would set both the Louisiana state and United States record was caught by Houma’s David Prevost aboard White Cap roughly 7-miles off Grand Isles, Louisiana, with Jeff DeBlieux.
Lance Schouest Sr. broke the news with his FB post following the record catch: “Congrats to my buddy David Previost he set the la state and USA record today off grand isle tarpon 246.10 what a fish it’s a fish of a life time happy for you an Jeff Deblue was the gaff man great job.”
“We were in the largest mass of tarpon I’ve ever seen — and I’ve seen a lot of tarpon,” DeBlieux told the Louisiana Sportsman. “There were tarpon everywhere we could see.”
To be an official Louisiana record, Prevost’s fish must be certified by the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association. The previous state-record weighed 230-pounds and was caught by Thomas Gibson in August 1993.
The current IGFA world record is a 286-pound fish caught in Africa in 2003. Two years ago Outdoors360 had the exclusive story and video of a monster tarpon that was measured and estimated at over 300-pounds by Captain Justin Moore off Anna Maria, Island, Florida.
