Hunting isn’t always about taking something from nature. At times, it can be about helping out an animal in need of an assist.

That’s the situation the hunters walked into when they discovered a trapped elk in Alberta, Canada. The elk had gotten stuck in a deep mud pit and couldn’t escape on its own.

“We came across a bull elk stuck in the mud,” said one of the hunters. “Cold and very weak, he didn’t have much time to live.”

These situations can be incredibly dangerous for the individual trying to help, but they managed to free the elk in as safe a manner as possible.
