PETA is trying to get FWC to bring the hammer down on Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller after he caught a 9.5-foot hammerhead off Miami’s coast.

Miller can be seen in a video he posted of the battle to reel in the shark, which they hadn’t intended on catching that day.

Although the shark was released, PETA wasn’t too happy when they found out about it and they’re hoping to ensure Miller is held accountable.

“Seeing Von Miller smile as he holds a shark’s bloody body should turn any kind person’s stomach,” said Stephanie Bell, PETA’s senior director of cruelty casework. “This man has a reported history of bullying animals—having previously made the news for wrestling an alligator—and PETA is inquiring with officials to ensure that Miller is held accountable if killing this animal was, as we suspect, illegal.”

The main debate seems to be whether or not they killed the shark or if it died shortly after being released. There’s no evidence so far to suggest the shark died, but since hammerhead sharks are considered an endangered species, the FWC “is looking into whether or not a violation occurred in this incident.”
