Brooke Essick was just cleaning her pet fish Dane’s water like any other time when she transferred him to a new bowl. The only difference was that Dane had apparently died at some point during the move.
“We had planned to just simply change Dane’s water,” Essick told FOX8. “But that quickly changed when Dane ‘died’ while being put in his new bowl with freshly changed water.”
Essick, 18, did what any other loving fish owner would – she prepared a toilet funeral.
At the end of the ceremony, when it was time to flush Dane away to fish heaven, she quickly realized the fish miraculously recovered, but it was too late.

It’s always hard when you realize your fish just pulled the escape plan from Finding Nemo.
“As soon as I hit the flush button, Dane began to swim again,” Essick said. “But… it was too late.”
“He was a great fish,” she continues, saying she has a new goldfish. “He lived a happy year!”
