VIDEO: Solar Power Plant Is So Hot It’s Igniting Birds Mid-Flight

It’s tough out there for a bird. Not only do birds have a hard time figuring out how windows work and when the best time to fly by an airport is, now solar power plants are setting them on fire.

Solar power plants in California, those owned by this Bay Area company, are being urged to figure out a way to stop killing birds that get burned alive while flying over the panels.

The panels end up reflecting heat up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, causing the bird’s feathers to singe and ignite. What’s worse, the panels may actually be attracting insects, which attract even more birds and makes the problem even worse.

With bird migrations potentially overlapping with the locations of some facilities, it’s a problem that could keep getting worse.
