Bore tides don’t always occur, but when they do they put on one heck of a show for anyone lucky enough to see them. They occur when a rush of seawater returns to a shallow and narrow inlet after coming in from a broad bay. It’s likely you’ve never heard of or even witnessed one even though there are around 60 of them in the world.
This particular bore tide occurred in the Turnagain Arm near Anchorage, Alaska, and is easily one of the most beautiful to watch, thanks to the surrounding mountains and an easily viewable 40-50 mile stretch from the road.
