If you looked up the word stud in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of this whale next to it. That’s because this whale isn’t satisfied with only breaching the surface, it’s only happy when it fully launches its 40-ton body out of the ocean.
This enormous humpback whale was recorded by scuba diver Craig Capehart, off the coast of South Africa earlier this month. Capehart and three of other scuba divers were in a small inflatable boat, hunting for sardines, when they discovered the humpback whale that was about to blow their minds.
“It seems that never before has a recording been made of an adult humpback whale leaping entirely out of the water! A very rare event, indeed,” Capehart writes.
Whether this is the first recording of such an encounter, it’s certainly rare to witness.
We aren’t sure if this whale is part dolphin or what, but just look at that air!
