Long thought to be extinct, experts recently discovered what they believe is a Chelonoidis phantasticus, a tortoise that hadn’t been seen in over a century.
It turns out that isn’t exactly the case, as one was spotted on Fernandina Island in Ecuador’s Galapagos archipelago. Now that they’ve discovered this tortoise, they hope they can discover others in order to create a breeding program to grow the population.
