Dinghies aren’t typically known for their usefulness in extreme sports. They’re generally a simple and easy boat to introduce first-timers to the world of boating.
However, that’s not the case in Renmark. Located on the banks of Australia’s Murray River, you’ll find boaters strapping high-powered outboard engines to their dinghies. People have been doing this since 1981, in races that see the simple dinghy hit speeds of up to 50mph.
Teams of two board the boat as they utilize their bodies as counterweights so the boat doesn’t flip as the dinghy whips around sharp turns.
From what we’ve seen, it doesn’t get much wilder than the Riverland Dinghy Derby!
