Panhandle Fishing Forecast – January / February

February is upon us and most folks think this is about the worse month to fish. However if you plan around the good weather days and know that to look for, you can have some successful days.

We’ve just had a good cold front so most of the fish are going to push into deeper water or those freshwater inflows around the bay’s. The Appalachia river delta is a good location. In the deeper channels and holes around creek mouths will hold warmer water. That’s where those trout and redfish will hang.

Also the Inter-coastal waterway in Port St. Joe will have a lot of trout in this time of year. Fishing live shrimp on the bottom with 1/2 oz sinker and 2/0 circle hook. Another good bait can be cut squid on the bottom for large croakers and redfish.
