Two people were injured but able to walk away after an elk brought down their helicopter in Utah.
They were attempting to net the elk so they could sedate it and put a collar on it for further study. Unfortunately, the elk caused the crash by jumping into the rear rotor and was killed.
The crash occurred near Currant Creek Reservoir, according to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Department.
“This almost severed the tail rotor and ended the flight of this chopper,” the Wasatch County Search and Rescue said on Facebook. “The two people aboard the chopper are okay except a few small cuts and bruises. They were both checked out by Fruitland EMS. As for the chopper not so good. Not something you see every day when an elk brings down a chopper.”
