SNS Outfitter & Guides discovered a mysterious crack in Wyoming last week. They posted on their Facebook page: “This giant crack in the earth appeared in the last two weeks on a ranch we hunt in the Bighorn Mountains. Everyone here is calling it “the gash”. It’s a really incredible sight.”
Randy Becker posted this series of photos that he took while hunting in the Bighorns, and said,
“an awesome example of how our earth is not as stable as you might think.”
After the photos went viral, SNS Outfitter & Guides brought in an engineer from Riverton, Wyoming to study the gaping holes. “Apparently, a wet spring lubricated across a cap rock. Then, a small spring on either side caused the bottom to slide out. He estimated 15 to 20 million yards of movement. By range finder, an estimate is 750 yards long and about 50 yards wide.”
