This insane ending to a police chase could’ve ended a lot worse.
The chase started after escaped inmate Kevonte Dekorey Austin, 18, ran off during a work-release. He hitched a ride in a pick-up that was eventually pulled over for speeding by a deputy in Webster Parish, Louisiana, on U.S. Highway 371. Austin hopped into the driver’s seat and took off as the officer was talking to the driver.
The chase reached speeds up to 115 miles per hour as it reached the Springhill area before heading south on Hwy. 371. It was there that Austin hit a spike strip the police had set out, causing him to lose control. The aftermath of hitting the spikes can be seen in the video below:

The truck flew in the air Duke’s of Hazard style, but it didn’t have the same clean getaway ending those Duke boy’s are used to. Austin actually landed right on top of a Toyota Corolla that was parked outside a restaurant. Fortunately for Barbara Harlon, who was inside the car when the truck landed on it, she managed to escape uninjured.
“I felt around to see if I was hurt and could tell that I was okay,” Harlon said. “God was with me.”
