As far as bizarre cases of mistaken identity go, this one is pretty high up on the list.
A family in China had raised their “puppy” for two years before they decided it wasn’t actually a puppy at all. What they had thought was originally a Tibetan mastiff was actually an Asiatic Black Bear. These bears also happen to be a protected species.
Once it hit the 250lb mark and walked around on its hind legs, they decided their puppy might not actually be a puppy after all.
“The more he grew, the more like a bear he looked,” said Ms. Yun, who raised the bear.
We’re pretty sure that had to be warning signs before having it for two years that at least suggested it wasn’t a dog. But then again, giving up a pet you’ve had for so long isn’t exactly easy.
