Ex-NFL player Rob Konrad Falls Off Fishing Boat, Swims Nine Miles Back To Shore

The U.S. Coast Guard said Konrad was fishing alone when he fell over board. His boat was on autopilot and drifted away, and he swam nine miles in the “frigid waters” of the Atlantic Ocean for roughly ten to twelve hours through the night, according to Petty Officer Mark Barney, a public affairs specialist for the US Coast Guard. He was found on land at Palm Beach, Florida, at 4:40 a.m. with symptoms of hypothermia.

It’s not known how he fell off his 36-foot boat, and he was alone and not wearing a life jacket. The former Miami Dolphins, and Syracuse Orange fullback was dropped off in Boca Raton at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. He set the boat in cruise control and was heading north to fish Lake Worth. His friends contacted the Coast Guard when he did not return home, and they deployed a helicopter in the search. Outdoors360 recently posted the story and video of a recent Florida rescue by a USCG helicopter.
