The story of a dairy farmer from a small town near the Great Salt Lake in Utah, who made the discovery of a 12-meter, 25-ton humpback whale (39-feet for our American readers) in one of his fields has gone viral again. Outdoors360 was prepared to link to the story, and provide additional details and information regarding the story, but it turns out there’s more (or less) to this story than originally reported.
The original story was published here: “Mysterious Remains of a whale found in a field in Utah”
This story has gained some much traction that a Davis County, Utah dispatcher confirmed to the Salt Lake Tribune (A Whale of a tale: No there’s no humpback in Famrington.) that they have received a bunch of calls from people who saw the story.
The headline photo is 100% legitimate, and actually came from the above video – a dead baleen whale that was found in a Yorkshire field in September of 2011. It was roughly 800 meters off of the shoreline, off the Humber Estuary in England. For this whole story, click “Giant Whale Falls Out of Sky in UK?”
Regarding the claim that these particular remains were found in Utah, well that’s an entirely different story.
