It’s not every day that a place notorious for drinking, gambling and prostitution becomes a popular attraction for families. That’s just what happened on the shores of Coronado, California when the SS Monte Carlo was uncovered after powerful El Niño storms washed away the sand covering it up.
If El Niño storms continue to pound the beach shores of San Diego, Joe Ditler, a local, expects many more may get to glimpse this piece of nautical history from the 1930’s. Ditler says he has never seen so much of the wreckage as he did this weekend since he has lived here.
Once a popular pleasure palace, the SS Monte Carlo now offers pleasure to those lucky enough to catch it at low tide.
