May 9, 2016 marks 36 years since the Sunshine Skyway Bridge collapsed after being struck by the MV Summit Venture freighter in the middle of a bad thunderstorm.
Once the ship collided with the bridge, a 1,200-foot chunk of the roadway on the bridge fell into the water.
Along with the bridge section, six cars, a truck, and a bus dropped 150 feet into Tampa Bay, killing 35 people.
