It’s not everyday that you discover an injured great white shark in your backyard. That’s why Dale Pearson, of Pearson Brothers Winery, was both shocked and curious about the massive splashing shark (which he initially though was a hammerhead) outside of his vacation home.

Dale and a friend takes it upon themselves to get uncomfortably close to the 14-foot shark, where they discover it has propeller injuries below its dorsal fin. They start to back off after realizing the shark is in the shallow water in search of easier prey, which were stingrays in this case.

While backing away both of them suffer an injury, thanks to some stingrays. Luckily for them the injuries were to their feet and weren’t anything more serious.
