The S-97 Raider Light Tactical Helicopter is Lockheed Martin’s newest prototype, and it’s being called “the next big thing in Army aviation,” according to Business Insider.
It’s the double-rotor design and back propeller that really set the S-97 apart. These new advances allow for much better stability and speeds upwards of 250mph. That’s twice as fast as current light tactical choppers. With the capability of carrying both Hellfire missiles and machine guns, this could easily end up replacing current light tactical helicopter like the aging MH-6/AH-6 Little Bird family of helicopters.
