We’ve seen it in movies, but grabbing a pistol by the slide as it fires can’t actually stop another round from chambering, can it?
Surprisingly, it actually works — in a controlled environment. When Polenar Tactical tests whether or not grabbing the slide will stop a bullet from chambering, they do so without losing a finger, getting shot or breaking their hand.
We’re just as surprised as you that this actually works. In a real-world situation, we wouldn’t suggest that this should be the way you should handle someone with a gun. There’s too high of a chance that this would fail and you’d grab the gun at the wrong spot. And getting shot in the hand or anywhere else isn’t worth trying to do that cool thing they sometimes do in the movies.
