Odds are you’ve fired a pistol or seen someone fire one in your life. Even with the unaided eye, it’s obvious it’s an impressive and powerful weapon. But a projectile fired at 1,200 feet per second is a pretty hard thing to spot, so there’s proabably a lot we’re missing once that hammer strikes the primer.
Luckily for us, Adam Savage and the Myth Busters team managed to record a shot at an incredible 73,000 frames per second. The results are pretty incredible and they even show that the air in front of the gun is affected before the bullet even leaves leaves the barrel.
The way the air reacts to the pressure from the shot is insane as it forms a mushroom cloud that looks like an explosion of vapor.
