Bird watchers will have an incredible opportunity this winter if they decide to make the trek to the Great Lakes. That’s because large amounts of snowy owls are expected to make their south.
MANISTIQUE, MI – Snowy owls are winging their way south, exciting bird enthusiasts and researchers who agree the Great Lakes will be seeing them in large numbers this winter.
A group of them stopped traffic last week in Manistique, where motorists pulled over just to get a glimpse of them lined up on utility poles, scoping out the Upper Peninsula town on the shores of Lake Michigan.
To the north, Marquette had a snowy owl take up residence a month ago, seemingly settling in for the season.
