A magnitude 3.7 earthquake was recorded off the coast of northeast Florida on Saturday. The epicenter of the earthquake was about 105 miles east of Florida’s coast in the Atlantic Ocean and struck around 4 p.m. EDT Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. No major damage was reported.
Earthquakes in Florida are rare and those that cause damage are almost nonexistent. According to the USGS, two earthquakes that struck 10 minutes apart in January 1879 knocked plaster from walls in St. Augustine and were felt as far away as Tampa on the Gulf coast.
