New Hog Hunting Rules Has Hunters in Uproar

Hog hunters and owners of hog preserves are up in arms after new rules have been set in place for the hunting of feral hogs in Oklahoma.

Now, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture:

  • No new hunting preserves will be allowed
  • A $25 license is required to hunt
  • Transportation of live hogs requires advanced notice
  • A 24 hour license is needed to transport hogs

On top of that, the county the hogs were caught and will be taken needs to be known, as well as the number of hogs that will be taken. Preserve owners fear this will kill their business, and their fears have already been proven true, as some hunters have quit and said they won’t be back.

Dr. Justin Roach promises these new rules weren’t intended to put anyone out of business. Intended or not, that’s likely what will happen with so many new regulations being placed on the hunting of such an invasive species. With roughly 420,000 feral hogs needing to be killed each year to maintain the population, they can’t afford for hunters to give up.
