One fisherman is lucky to be alive after a very unlucky accident on a fishing trip in Brazil.
Hugo Pereira da Silva may have suffered the gnarliest fishing injury we’ve ever seen when a 3-foot spear went in one side of his jaw and out on the other side of his face while he and a friend were fishing at the Rio Paranaiba dam in Araguari.
“Unfortunately, they were not careful with the positioning, the distance,” Araguari fire department Deputy Lt. Lucenildo Batista Alves said. “And the waters of the river in our region are murky, especially in the very dirty rainy season.”
Fortunately the spear didn’t hit a little farther up, otherwise Silva wouldn’t have made it out alive.
As bad as the injury looks, Silva was treated for his injuries and released the next day.
It’s unclear if the friend fired at what he thought was a fish or if the gun simply misfired, but I doubt Silva will be inviting him on any fishing excursions anytime soon.
