A fishing trip the day before thanksgiving ended with a North Carolina man catching a catfish so massive it could’ve replaced four turkeys during the holiday feast.
Rain Brewington didn’t expect to catch anything even close to a state record (it was just five pounds shy) while fishing on the Cape Fear River.
“In the water, it felt like it was pretty big,” he said. “I thought it would have already snapped the line, but I didn’t realize how big he was until I actually got my hands underneath him.”

Brewington took several photos of the fish before releasing it and heading home for the holiday.
