Firefighter May Have Speared the Largest Warsaw Grouper Ever

James Taylor, a firefighter from Bradenton, Florida, probably just speared the biggest Warsaw grouper in the world while he was fishing off the coast of St. Pete Beach.

Taylor caught the fish, which came in at a staggering 409 pounds, while fishing the St. Pete Open on Saturday, August 19. It’s touted as the “largest spearfishing tournament in the world.” With 400-plus pound fish being caught and having been in operation for 52 years, it’d be hard to argue that it isn’t.

He entered the tournament with Team Trident along with members Thomas Mitchell, Chris Williams, Mike Jeans, Brian Londeree and Shannon Acreman.

The fish was weighed by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Taylor is waiting for the final confirmation that it’s the largest Warsaw grouper ever speared.
