In a move that would help Bass Pro Shops dominate the sporting goods industry like it hasn’t done before, the outdoor retailer has partnered with Golman Sachs Group Inc’s private equity arm to make an offer for Cabela’s Inc, according to Reuters.
This makes a deal between the two sporting goods giants even more likely since Bass Pro first expressed interest in purchasing Cabela’s.

Though the deal is still in its very early stages and there are other firms interested in buying Cabela’s, it’s impossible to not imagine how huge of an impact this could have for the customer.
A buyout would likely mean cost savings at the counter, especially since the two companies are so alike. If that means more fishing gear, kayaks and a boat for me (if only), then so be it.
With online giants like Amazon offering everything under the sun, often times at huge savings, this would help Bass Pro compete and stay relevant. This is especially true since experiences like boat servicing, shooting galleries and expert taxidermy are offered at Bass Pro and Cabela’s locations – something Amazon won’t be offering any time soon.
