KL Outdoors, the world’s largest kayak manufacturer, is sending 2,000 kayaks and a truck load of jon boats to help Hurricane Harvey rescue efforts.
The company, which includes both Sundolphin and Evoke kayak brands, started shipping out their personal watercraft from their factory based in Muskegon, Mich. The kayaks were actually purchased from KL Outdoor/GSC Technologies by Walmart, but KLO/GSC is handling shipping costs.
Shipping began on Monday and will arrive at Walmart locations within three to five days to Texas and Louisiana locations.
“Our consumers are suffering down there,” said Chuck Smith, KLO/GSC CEO. “Anything we can do to make life a little bit easier for them is a good thing.”
The truck load of jon boats, which is about 50 boats, is being delivered to Academy Sports in order to further help with rescue efforts.
These kayaks and boats will be a huge help in offering help to flooded areas of Texas and Louisiana after Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast as a Category 4 hurricane. Although it has been downgraded to a tropical storm, it continues to batter Houston with heavy rain and wind.
