Owls aren’t exactly known for their swimming skills. That’s why this footage, caught by hikers, of a great horned owl swimming through a canyon, is so odd.
The most likely reason that it ended up swimming for its life is that it probably fell from its cliffside nest. It appears to be young so it probably still has some of its nesting feathers.
It’s a good thing it manages to find a patch of land because it won’t actually be able to fly until it has had time to dry its feathers.
