Most people wouldn’t see a squirrel with only their two hind legs and think it has a chance at surviving. That was the situation for Karamel the squirrel when it was discovered in Southeast Turkey with its front legs caught in a trap.
Karamel ended up being taken to a vet who was unable to help its situation there, but they knew someone who could. Tayfun Demir, who already had a rescue squirrel, decided to take Karamel in.
It was after coming to live with Demir that he took Karamel to a team of medical professionals who eventually figured out a prosthesis with wheels that would allow the squirrel to get back up and moving.
After a couple of surgeries and some adjustments, it looks like Karamel is well on its way to being able to fully get around on its own.
