No matter how close someone thinks they are with a wild animal, you never fully know if something will set them off and result in an attack.
Michael Hodge, 72, raised Shamba, a male lion, for a decade at Marakele Predator Centre in South Africa without incident. Shamba ended up attacking Hodge on April 29 in front of a tour truck. He took Hodge down and dragged him away before being shot and killed by an employee at the park.
Hodge survived the attack with minor injuries and said he was traumatized by Shamba’s attack and death.
