Scientists Spot Rare Dumbo Octopus From Their Deep-Sea Sub

It may not be a flying elephant, but the Grimpoteuthis octopus, or the dumbo octopus, is about as close as you’re going to get.

Not much is known about these creatures, mostly because they’re hardly ever seen. One thing we do know is it gets its name because of its lateral fins that look just like big ears. When it swims, these ear fins make it look strangely similar to when Dumbo grabs that feather and takes off.
