Nutria AKA River Rat is Now the Hottest Menu Item in Upscale Restaurants

If you thought Kobe beef was the ultimate delicacy for the upscale meat eating diner, think again. Upscale diners in Russia have found a new ‘delicious’ meat to sink their teeth into – nutria. That’s right, Russians are eating river rat in upscale dining establishments.

Nutria, also knows as coypu, are being devoured at alarming rates (any number more than zero is alarming in this case) at chic restaurants in Russia, according to theguardian.com. Just how do people prefer their river rat in Russia? In burger form, obviously.

Moscow’s Krasnodar Bistro, offers nutria burgers, sausage and dumplings to diners who love the taste of these rodents.

“It’s a really clean animal,” said restaurant owner Takhir Kholikberdiev. “Not only is it a herbivore, but it washes all its food before it eats. And it’s very high in omega-3 acids. A lot of doctors and dietitians recommend it.”

We’ll just have to take your word for it.

If you get a wild hair and decide to take a trip to Moscow, you can have yourself a nutria burger for about $8.25.

River Rat. It’s what’s for dinner.
