Who would win in a fight to the death between an unarmed man and a mountain lion?
It sounds like a pretty easy question to answer — the mountain lion, of course. That’s what we would’ve said before hearing the story of a recent mountain lion attack on an unidentified Colorado trail runner who killed the cougar with his bare hands.
That’s right, this guy full on Liam Neesond a mountain lion that bit off way more than it could attempt to chew.
The jogger, who is in his 30’s, was running alone on Monday on Larimer County’s Horsetooth Mountain when a juvenile mountain lion. During his run, he heard a noise behind him and turned around as he locked eyes with the cat that wildlife officials believe was less than a year old.
He yelled and waved his arms in an attempt to scare the cat away but it didn’t work.
“The mountain lion pounced anyway,” said Rebecca Ferrell, spokeswoman for Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
It went work his head and neck, but he blocked the attacks with his forearms, causing the mountain lion to sink its fangs into his wrist where it wouldn’t let go.
Luckily, the man had a free hand and managed to grab a rock and pound the cat in the head. Still, t wouldn’t let go.
He managed to get enough leverage to get the cat into a headlock, which helped him eventually get his wrist free. He didn’t waste his small window of opportunity as he hopped on the animals back and used his hands, arms and feet to choke the life out of the attacking cat.
“This is crazy but true. We have no reason to believe that this is a hoax,” Ferrell continued.
“It’s an amazing story. Everyone is baffled and impressed. He had no weapons, no knives or trekking poles with him.”
This is one runner that wildlife probably wants to steer clear of in the future.
“We can let you know that the runner is doing well considering his ordeal, and will need a few days to decompress before deciding if he will speak publicly,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials tweeted.
