Kayakers on Lake Superior received a surprise of their lives after encountering an 8pt buck trapped in a sea cave. Kayakers, Jen Boyd and Dawn Kerrigan, were canoeing with family when they noticed the deer stuck in the cave.
Boyd stated the deer was so thin his bones were protruding and that the animal appeared weak and scared. To ensure the animal’s survival, Boyd and Kerrigan, both animal lovers knew they had to act. Kerrigan began by making deer calls to which the buck reacted. After many attempts, he reluctantly squeezed out of the cave and into the water swimming his way to safety.
Park rangers believe the buck jumped off the 60-foot cliff at Bayfield landing in the water and ultimately getting stuck in the cave. “In each of those little caves as the kayakers are coming in and going by it gets spooked, they don’t know where to go, and that’s what led to them being trapped in there for so long”. What a happy ending to a most unusual story.
