Hopefully, farmers in Alabama will be catching a break after state legislatures approved the hunting of both deer and hogs over bait.
With the highest deer population in the country and a significant number of wild hogs, agriculture has suffered a great deal.
“I went out of the farming business over hogs,” said State Rep. Artis McCampbell, D-Livingston.
Now, hunting over bait will be a permit away, thanks to this bill.
While most people support the bill as far as hogs are concerned, others take issue with involving deer. McCambell fully supports hunting hogs over bait, but feels deer populations could be better controlled if hunters went after does instead of only pursuing trophy bucks.
Others, like State Rep. Mike Millican, R-Hamilton, says that deer populations are extremely out of control.
“There are so many of them the cars are running over them,” says Millican.
