Elk Spotted for First Time in South Carolina in Nearly 280 Years

The first elk to be spotted in South Carolina since 1737 was tranquilized and relocated after venturing too close to populated areas on several occasions. The young bull elk is believed to have most likely fled during mating season in order to save itself from competing with full-grown males which could’ve easily torn him to shreds. The elk was moved to the mountains in South Carolina that neighbor North Carolina where it is hoped he will remain until he hopefully rejoins his herd after mating season.
