If you’re out fishing off the coast and your dog disappears without a trace, it’d be hard to not assume the worst – especially after five weeks. Luna wasn’t going to let her story end in tragedy.
A German shepherd-husky mix, Luna swam 2 miles to San Clemente Island, off the San Diego coast after going overboard off the California coast over a month beforehand. It turns out the island is a Navy training base and it was there that she was found by Naval employees, according to gCaptain.
Nick Haworth, Luna’s owner, says she went missing while he and his crew were hauling in a catch before dawn. Haworth proceeded to search for the missing dog for two days. After 10 days, he assumed she had perished in the water.
Lucky for Nick, Luna and our readers, we know this story has a happy ending.
