If you’re surprised to hear Arby’s has a venison sandwich, you may be even more surprised to find out it sold out within its first few hours after launch in Nashville, Tennessee.
Part of a very limited offering, one store sold 250 of the sandwiches in a few hours, while the other sold 100 in just an hour.

“We stuck a nerve, in a good way, with hunters,” said Luke DeRouen of Arby’s. “Some people drove from an hour away to try it,” he said.
Since the USDA won’t allow the selling of wild-harvested animals, the deer used were actually free-range and far-raised from New Zealand. As popular as venison is, it’s unfortunate Arby’s had to go out of country to find their meat.
“Everyone thought we we were going to serve shaved venison,” says DeRouen. The company decided to forgo their typical shaven meats and went for 5.5-ounce cuts of top and bottom round steak.
This is definitely something we never thought we’d see offered at any fast-food restaurant, but hopefully it will catch on.
The promotion for the venison steak sandwich will now move on to Atlanta, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
