In an experience neither of them will soon forget, two lifeguard surfers encountered a 22 Foot basking shark while out on a Cornish beach.
Photos of the event show the monster fish absolutely dwarfing the two surfers as it swam around them on their paddle boards. The pair were in no danger, as basking sharks feed on plankton and aren’t a threat to humans.
Despite this looking like a remake of Jaws waiting to happen, the sharks pose no danger.
The shark was part of a group of four basking sharks that were spotted feeding near shore at Porthcurno, Cornwall.
Rachel Hosken snapped the incredible shots of the sharks and surfers when she saw what was happening from a nearby location.
“It was stunning – really exciting to see,” she said. “There were some people on the beach who had a close up view.”
“They didn’t bother the sharks though. It’s fantastic to see them again.”
Beach goers had an earlier counter with the gentle giant sharks which they caught on film.
