Apparently Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell had never heard of Michael Banks before singing There Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
Banks climbed to the top of Morro Rock, a 576-foot -tall landmark, to propose to his girlfriend via FaceTime. After popping the big question – she said yes, according to Banks – he became stranded on the side of the the rock when he attempted to descend.
Luckily a California Highway Patrol Rescue Helicopter was able to find and rescue the dangling Banks. Unfortunately for Banks, his story isn’t a perfect happily ever after. His rescuers weren’t thrilled to discover he was in possession of a controlled substance, which he was later arrested for. He will also be charged for the cost of the rescue, according to the City of Morro Bay Facebook page. On top of all that, he received a citation for trespassing on state property.
With everything that went wrong, you’d think Banks would choose a better alternative if given the chance for a redo, but you’d be wrong. A true romantic at heart, Banks says he would do it all over again.
