If there has ever been a dog that’s a true hero, it’s Haus the German shepherd.
After realizing his owner, Molly DeLuca was in danger from a rattlesnake while playing in her Tampa, Florida, backyard with her grandmother, Haus didn’t hesitate to put himself between his loved ones and danger.
“She saw him jump back and go forward, and jump back and go forward,” Donya DeLuca (Molly’s mom) told WTVT. “He was just kind of holding his ground.”
They quickly realized just what it was that was causing his odd behavior when they noticed the rattlesnake Haus was protecting them from.
“Just based on temperament, he was standing up for my daughter. He was standing between; he didn’t budge,” DeLuca told WTVT. “He kept taking hits.”
Haus ended up taking three bites from the snake on his leg. Vets discovered the bites when he was taken to a clinic for treatment. His kidney’s were damaged in the incident, but after receiving anti-venom, Haus was on his way to a speedy recovery.
Unfortunately, the anti-venom was expensive. However, with the help of a GoFundMe page, $52,549 was raised from over 1,840 people in 7 days – covering the cost of the required treatment.
“We have been assured we have plenty of money for Haus and no longer need donations,” Donya wrote on Friday. “If you would like to donate in Haus’s name, please make your donations to Heidis Legacy Rescue, who helped so much with Haus’s transition to our family.”
