It was quite the scene in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, when 17 bison escaped a local farm on Saturday, March 5th after a tree fell, creating an opening in the fence.
“There were 17 animals and they were all gone and they split up into two different groups,” said Tom Pierson, farm and bison owner.
The search for the missing bison went on for over six hours with help between the community and Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputies.
“Bison don’t herd. They’re not like cattle or like horses — and they’re extremely dangerous too,” said Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth.
Unfortunately, that danger became all too real when ten of the animals wandered off for miles – finding their way into town and neighbouring yards. A call had to be made and they were put down. No one was hurt during the incident.
“I was sorry I had to kill those, but I didn’t want anybody to get hurt,” said Pierson.
The seven other bison were luckily saved.
