This pastor is a walking miracle after walking away from the traumatic incident
A diver is lucky to be alive after he ended up shooting himself in the head during a spearfishing accident.
Pastor Connie Hallowell was spearfishing on August 30 off the coast of Scottburgh, South Africa, when an accidental discharge left him with a spear in his head.
He got shot after a wave slammed into him and knocked the speargun against a reef. The loaded gun fired the 5-foot-long spear right through his face.
The spear entered through his cheek and exited on the opposite side of his face, just in front of his ear.
Getting shot through the head sounds like the end of the line for anyone. Miraculously, he survived the accident without any major injuries
Lucky to be alive is an understatement
Hallowell was spearfishing alone when he had his accident. Luckily, a fisherman who was nearby heard him calling for help and was able to get him help.
“I was discharged 48 hours after arriving at the hospital as the surgeon saw no further reason to keep me,” said Hallowell.
He sustained an orbital fracture from the spear but suffered no other serious injuries. That’s incredible considering how gruesome it looked.
“I never thought I was going to die. I just knew that I wanted to live,” he continued.
“(The doctors) confirmed this is a miracle that it missed every vital organ and left me with slight numbness, which they expect will return back to normal within the next few weeks.”
Hallowell pastors a church in Umkomaas, South Africa. He said he started reading his Bible as soon as he got his phone after the accident.
