A 22-year-old record could’ve been destroyed when members of the Deline First Nation caught a lake trout in Great Bear Lake that weighed 83-pounds. The current rod-and-reel record comes in at 72-pounds and wouldn’t have stood a chance against that monster.
Unfortunately the fish trout was caught with a gill net because the anglers were sustenance fishing. They tried to revive the fish but it was already dead.
That’s gotta be a hard blow, especially since the lodge is purely catch and release. That would’ve been an incredible fish to see in another few years if it were still around.
