The headline has gone viral over all forms of social media with a freakishly massive wahoo : “Potential World Record 202 Lb Wahoo Landed In Lake Worth, FL!”
The following photo accompanied the story below on www.lakeworthfishingcharters.com
“Today was definitely the highlight of my fishing career! We ventured out in rough seas this morning because I had a couple customers who were hell bent on catching a giant goliath grouper. Our first order of business was to catch a live bonito to put down as bait on one of our local shipwrecks in 195 ft of water. After catching a small bonito we dropped it down near the shipwreck and slow trolled it around for a goliath. After 10 minutes the 80w rod started screaming and we were hooked up! Right away we knew it wasn’t a goliath because it screamed to the surface 100 yards from the boat and started streaking along the surface with its tail out of the water. I thought we had hooked a giant sailfish, and my customers were excited at the prospect of releasing their first sail. It sounded after the first run and my customers took turn fighting it for another 40 minutes before it finally came into view under the boat. When we saw the stripes we knew it was a giant wahoo! With only one gaff on board, it took 3 of us to hoist it over the gunnel and into the boat. We ran in to weigh the giant fish on a certified scale at a local marina and it ended up weighing 202.6 lbs! To my knowledge this is the biggest wahoo ever landed. It was a day for the record books and one we will never forget. Although it will never make the IGFA record books because we took turns on the rod, it is still the fish of a lifetime for us.

Immediately reactions started pouring in from “congratulations” to “FAKE” and “Photoshop”. So, what’s the truth?
Cameron Kirkconnel, the master of spearing monster wahoo posted this photo on his Instagram. You can follow the comments below, as the tide turned within the post on thee validity of the fish.
202 lb Wahoo in Florida today… nope. More fake foolishness from the Internet. Don’t believe everything you read. #wahoo photo credit the Hulltruth #fishing
According to Hulltruth it is a fake, as multiple stories have been deleted off of their forums.
According to user DAB1009 : Capt Bill Romeros fabricated that story. The marina in the background is Palm Beach Yacht Center and it was confirmed through them that the fish actually weighed 65# and Capt Bill Romeros was not affiliated with the fish. Its unfortunate a captain with a charter business would go to those lengths and post it on his website to promote business.
This last photo appears to show the exact same fisherman, with a wahoo – of 2 very different sizes. We’re still awaiting official confirmation from sources on the true validity of the photo, but in the meantime, this is what we know about this “world record wahoo.”
