Panhandle Fishing Forecast – October

Fall is finally in the air. With temperatures here cooling off some. Highs around 84, low 68, and this aught to fire up those fishies. Redfish and trout should both be moving shallow in our bays and bayous.  Apalachicola bay is full of white shrimp and mullet right now.

So with some good tides, target the marsh grass. Creeks and coves, points and grass islands should all have redfish and trout hanging around them trying to feed. Popping cork and gulp shrimp, a slayer Inc weedless fluke, in white or black, and gold spoon work well for artificial.  Or use a live mullet or shrimp under a cork right on the edge of the grass. The fishing should only start to get better as the week goes on.

St. Joe bay grass flats are alive with redfish chasing pilchards and mullet. Free lining pilchards under a cork over the grass where sandy patches are located has been working great for reds.   There are also a few flounder working the edges where the sand and grass meet.
